American Legion Post 355 is offering $1,000 scholarships to two members of the Penn Yan Academy Class of 2025.

Applications are available at the Penn Yan Academy Guidance Office and must be submitted to the chairman of the Scholarship Committee by noon on March 20, 2025.

Proficiency shown in answering application and interview questions, initiative shown through past activities, interest in and understanding of world affairs, and knowledge about the United States will be among the standards used in rating candidates.

At the June 12 Post 355 Meeting, Commander, Brian Shriver, and Scholarship Chairman, Sheila Disbrow, presented citations and $1,000 checks to our 2024 Scholarship winners. Because of a generous donation from the estate of Martha Rouin, WWII Veteran, and mother of Phil Rouin, former Yates County Veterans’ Service Officer, the post was able to award three scholarships in her memory this year. All three candidates submitted outstanding applications and greatly impressed the Scholarship Committee during interview sessions. Our winners for 2024 are:

Addyson Webber, who aspires to be her own boss, taking advantage of her academic abilities, while continuing to pursue her passion for the arts. She will attend Elmira College.

Mason Bush, who aspires to be a DEC Officer or Forester for US Fish and Wildlife, so he can spread awareness of invasive species, and teach younger generations about the preservation of American Forests. He will attend Finger Lakes Community College (FLCC).

Rachael Garvey, who aspires to be a Sports and Exercise Psychologist in hopes of helping athletes of all kinds on their mental game. She will attend SUNY Geneseo.

Congratulations to our winners! The men and women of Post 355 wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
